RM, the pie, and the frog

Last Saturday we were at our church picnic. None of us wanted to go, but since I'm on the activities committee and helped plan the picnic- my presence was required, so I dragged RM and Moe to go with me.

After four and half hours of barbecuing, assembling, coordinating picnic games, and cleaning- we were so ready to go home. It wasn't the way I wanted to celebrate Father's Day weekend, but at least there was one highlight of the picnic that I'm glad I didn't miss:

RM entered a pie eating contest.

We were short on contestants and RM was asked to enter the contest. I knew he was already full from eating, and cautioned him to eat slowly, and to pretend to be eating the pie. I told RM it wasn't important to win, and that if he ate the whole pie, he would seriously get sick.

He looked at me and said, "Oh, I'm not stupid." "I don't want to be sick, I'll just pretend to eat the pie, don't worry."

And then the contest began and RM's competitive side kicked into full gear.

RM used a small plastic spoon to eat his banana cream pie, and then when he noticed that one spoon wasn't quick enough- he proceeded to grab two other spoons, combined them together, and was able to scoop the banana cream filling into his mouth quicker.

I was horrified.

What happened to the sane, rational man that I talked to earlier?

After I saw that his "three spoon strategy" was helping him be ahead of the other contestants- I forgot my earlier reservations and cheered him on! I wanted him to beat those other guys!

It was a short contest and RM came first place! His prize consisted of a package of hamburger meat, hamburger buns, AND... a huge belly ache, a migraine, and an aversion to anything that smells or looks like bananas.

side note: picture above was taken by RM, that's his shadow. Somehow that bronzed frog reminds me of RM. The picture is adorable, silly, and goofy- just like RM.

I'm dying of laughter right now. I guess he wouldn't want a piece of the banana bread with chocolate chips that I made yesterday! You should have video taped that. That RM, he's always good for a laugh!

THAT is awesome!
Of course, the man's competitive gene kicked in! I can't blame him one bit!

I would have liked to see that. I love banana cream pie, but after eating that much I'd be sick too.

I haven't been blogging much so I am going to scroll down and read a couple of yours that I've missed.

It's just hard to be at the computer when the weather is nice and you want to be outside. Got to take advantage of the warm days while I can.

The situation is so funny, but your writing made me feel like I was there watching. Thank goodness the prize wasn't a pie!

Congrats on the win! Too bad he probably will never eat banana cream pie again! I hope that the rest of your Father's Day weekend was good!
