My piece of sunshine

(flowers from my friend, Stephanie)

Two weeks ago was my baby's due date. On that day, I spent most of the day lying in bed in a vegetative state, watching TV- not caring what I was watching...until the doorbell rang.

The UPS delivery man left a large package on my door step and it was addressed to me. I opened the box and there were the most beautiful hydrangeas. Earlier in the day, there was an email from my close friend, Stephanie. She wanted to let me know that she was thinking of me and to expect a delivery from the UPS guy.

As soon as I took out the hydrangeas from out of the box, I transferred them into an empty flower pot that was in our front yard and filled the pot with soil. I placed the newly planted hydrangeas next to Moe's plants, the one that he gave me for Mother's Day.

(The plant that Moe gave me)

As I stood back and admired my flowers, I was reminded that though I was grieving for my little baby, I was fortunate to have a friend who knew that a gesture like flowers, would make my day.

It was the boost that I needed to change out of my pajamas (yes, I was out in the front yard in my pj's when I was planting- at 3pm in the afternoon) and finally took a shower.

I call the flowers on my front porch, "my piece of sunshine". The plants remind me that no matter how much I am having a bad day or going through a personal struggle - I can always count on my family and friends to get me through...

and that makes me smile.

I'm sorry, I've never read your blog before. But I planted a flower the day I left for my grandmother's funeral. It always makes me think of her, and while it's had a few sharp brushes with death, it still seems to survive. Great idea! :)

Oh I'm so glad you got those... that's awesome. Sometimes when we grieve it is a process we have to go through... but the little bits of sunshine help.

What a wonderful and thoughtful friend! You are indeed blessed. The hydrangea is spectacular, and I admire that brave little African Violet for surviving outdoors for such a long time!

Everyone needs a little bit of sunshine in their life. You are the biggest inspiration to me and I miss you too! Boy, we had it great when we lived near each other and could wake up and take a walk every morning. I miss those good times.

the flowers are gorgeous and that was wonderful of your friend to be in tune with your emotional needs.
I love that.

I wish I could send Naji to you. : ) You could work your magic on him and then he wouldn't be in such a sad situation! : )

Love you. Mean it.

LOVE your flowers. And really, sometimes it is GREAT to have pajama days!
